Consul General Zhao Weiping Delivered Speech At the Opening Ceremony of Saint Ignatius Model United Nations

      On November 8, Mr. Zhao Weiping, the Chinese Consul General to Chicago, delivered a speech titled "China's Contribution to World Peace and Development" at the Opening Ceremony of Saint Ignatius Model United Nations which was also attended by over 1,000 students, teachers and parents from 35 high schools in and around Chicago. 

                           

       Consul General Zhao said that in line with its own development, China has made great contribution to world peace and development. China's economic miracle over the past three decades has not only significantly raised the living standards of the Chinese people, lifting over 600 million people out of poverty, but also promoted the recovery of the global economy. China has been active in UN peacekeeping operations and played its active role in international efforts regarding counter-terrorism, counter-piracy, regional hotspot issues, climate change and the Ebola epidemic, etc. 

                           

      He stressed that China adheres to an independent foreign policy of peace and always follows such basic principles as sovereign equality, common security, common development and win-win cooperation in handling international and regional issues. China continues to pursue the path of peaceful development and hopes to develop friendly relations with all countries. China will also undertake more international obligations with the increase of its national strength. 

      Consul General Zhao also answered questions from the audience.
