Remarks by Consul General Zhao Weiping At "The Voice of Peace Gala"
2015-11-05 01:46

(October 24, 2015 Minnesota)

Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen.

On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, I wish to express my deep appreciation to the Chinese American Association of Minnesota, Minghua Chorus, Minnesota Minghua Chinese School and the China Tribune for organizing this event in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The war imposed on the world by fascists 70 years ago brought grave disaster to the humanity inflicting over 100 million military and civilian casualties. And China suffered over 35 million casualties due to the Japanese Invasion.

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War were a decisive battle between justice and evil, between light and darkness, and between progress and reaction. With huge national sacrifice, China has made major contribution to the Victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.

China will never forget the great support from the US government and the American people in its War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Many American soldiers sacrificed their lives in helping the Chinese people fight against the Japanese aggressors.

I’m deeply honored that Ms. Nell Calloway, granddaughter of General Claire Chennault(/Shə’nôlt/), the founder of the “Flying Tigers” and Major General William S. Chen, whose father was a former “Flying Tiger” member, are also with us here this evening. All the heroes of the “Flying Tigers” will live in the hearts of the Chinese people forever.

I believe that through events like this concert, we will revisit the lessons of the past and work together with even greater enthusiasm to safeguard the lasting peace of the world.
