Deputy Consul General Yu Peng met with UIUC and Police together with Families of Chinese Visiting Scholar Yingying Zhang

On June 17, the missing UIUC Chinese Scholar Yingying Zhang’s father and other family members arrived in Chicago. Deputy Consul General Yu Peng and staff of the Overseas Chinese and Education divisions of the Consulate General in Chicago received them at the airport and conveyed Consul General Hong Lei’s regards to them. Then they made their way to UIUC together.

After getting to the university, Deputy Consul General Yu Peng and Ms. Yingying Zhang’s father met with the university provost John Wilkin,Deputy Chancellor Robin Kaler and listened to the case update from the police.

Provost John Wilkin gave sincere welcome on behalf of UIUC to Ms. Yingying Zhang’s father and the visiting families and wished for Ms. Yingying Zhang’s early and safe return.

UIUC Chief of Police Jeff Christensen, Deputy Chief of Police Matt Myrick and responsible persons of FBI working on the case updated them about the case. They said that the police and FBI have made this case a priority and they are investing in their uttermost efforts to the investigation. The police also answered questions from the families pertaining the case.

Deputy Consul General Yu Peng thanked the university for its strong support, the police for their full efforts, and all parties for their concern. He said that there has been no result from the investigation so far and the families are in great anxiety. He wished the police could ramp up their efforts, using assorted resources to solve the case as early as possible.
