On August 9, Consul General Hong Lei met with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and her Grand Coordinator Andrew Goczkowski in Chicago.

Consul General Hong Lei said that in recent years, the China-U.S. relationship has maintained a good momentum of development. China and the U.S. are each other’s biggest trade partners, with a trade volume reaching 560 billion US dollars and Chinese direct investment into the U.S. growing to 45.6 billion US dollars, a double fold of the volume in 2015. Besides, people exchange between the two countries has kept blooming. The number of Chinese students studying in the U.S. now is over 330,000. In the Northwestern University alone which is within the constituency of Congresswoman Schakowsky, the number is beyond 1200. Such exchanges lay a solid foundation for enhancing mutual understanding of our two peoples and developing future bilateral relationship. China and the U.S. have extensive common interest and the relationship between the two countries is of vital importance to the world. The two sides should adhere to the principle of mutual respect, conduct mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation, and promote healthy and stable development of the China-U.S. relationship. Consul General Hong Lei hopes that Congresswoman Schakowsky can lend continuous support to cooperation and exchange between the two countries.

Congresswoman Schakowsky said that she attaches great attention to the China-U.S. relationship. As two major countries in the world, it is important that China and the United States enhance communication. She supports deeper cooperation between the two countries and would like to keep in touch with the Consulate General on matters of common interest.
