Consul General Hong Lei Attended Flag-raising Ceremony Celebrating the 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China Hosted by Local Chinese Community

On September 28, Consul General Hong Lei attended a flag-raising ceremony celebrating the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China hosted by the Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago (CAAGC). Deputy Consul General Yu Peng, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, representatives of Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Alderman Daniel S. Solis of Chicago's 25th Ward and more than 300 members of the local Chinese and students also attended the event.

Consul General Hong Lei stated in his address that the flag-raising ceremony is an expression of good wish from overseas Chinese people to the 68th birthday of the motherland. After 68 extraordinary years of development, the People's Republic of China has become the second largest economy in the world. During past five years in particular, the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people of all ethnic backgrounds to pursue integrated development of economy, politics, culture, society, and the environment according to a general outline. China is also pursuing coordinated development of building a wonderfully progress society, deepening reform, enhancing rule of law, strengthening the Party discipline, and marching towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The upcoming 19th Party Congress will outline a new blueprint for China's future development, broadening the prospect of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Consul General Hong Lei said that China will steadfastly follow the path of peaceful development and promote a new form of international relations featuring win-win cooperation. China and the United States are the largest developing and developed countries respectively. The stable and healthy development of Sino-US relations not only serves the interests of both nations, but also meets the expectation of the wider international community. Chicago Chinese community has made consistent and active contributions to the development of their motherland,the development of Sino-US ties, as well as the peaceful unification of China and we hope to continuously count on their support.

CAAGC Chairman Wang Xingwu said that in the 68 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the livelihood of Chinese people has experienced continuous improvement. China's development made an active contribution to world peace and economic growth. The Chinese American community in the United States are proud of the great achievements accomplished in their motherland. The overseas Chinese sincerely hope for the prosperity of the motherland and the everlasting friendship between China and the United States.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Alderman Daniel S. Solis and other important members of the government addressed at the ceremony extending their congratulations to the 68th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, expressing their wishes for further development of US-China friendship.

After the ceremony, artists from Chicago's Chinese community performed Chinese songs and dances.
