On December 14, Consul General Hong Lei met with Indiana State Senate Majority Caucus Chair James Merritt.

Consul General Hong Lei introduced the 19th CPC National Congress and outcomes achieved during President Trump’s state visit to China. China, in the new era, will bring about unprecedented opportunities to the world including the US. Earlier this year, Zhejiang Province and Indiana celebrated the 30th anniversary of their sister-state-province relationship. Governor Holcomb plans to visit China next year which will further promote the ties between Indiana and China. China and Indiana have enjoyed strong momentum in trade, economy and people to people exchanges and embrace a promising future of cooperation. Consul General Hong Lei hoped that Chair Merritt could continue to care about and support cooperation between China and Indiana and China-US relations.

Chair Merritt said that he was pleased to see the smooth transition of China-US relations after the new US administration took office, and opportunities brought by China’s developments were highly anticipated by people from all walks of life in Indiana. He is willing to play an active role in facilitating friendly ties between Indiana and China and expanding cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment and education, etc..
