From December 13 to December 14, Consul General Hong Lei visited the district offices of U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly, Congressman Todd Rokita, Congresswoman Susan Brooks, Congressman Andre Carson and Congressman Jim Banks, meeting with District Director Hodge Patel, District Director Joe McLain, District Director Karen Glaser, District Director Megan Sims Wilmes, and District Director Long Lagemann respectively.

Consul General Hong Lei introduced the 19th CPC National Congress, stating that the Congress provided a blueprint and action plan for socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a new era. China has set the goals of basically achieving socialist modernization by 2035 and building China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful by 2050. To achieve these goals, China will maintain stable and high-quality development, deepen reform, accelerate innovation and protect its environment. As a result, China’s development will generate even greater and broader opportunities to the world including the United States.

Consul General Hong Lei said that not long ago, President Trump made a historic state visit to China. President Xi Jinping and President Trump reached important agreements on developing China-U.S. relations in the new era. Instead of being a zero-sum game, the developments of China and the U.S. are complementary to each other. China and the U.S. can benefit from each other’s successes. Sino-U.S. cooperation not only serves the interests of the two nations, but also meets the expectation of the international community. In recent years, the relationship between China and Indiana also enjoyed sound development, particularly in the areas of trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges. He hopes that Senators and Congress Representatives from Indiana will continue to support the expansion of China-U.S. Cooperation and management of Sino-U.S. differences on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, and contribute to the healthy and stable development of China-Indiana ties.

The district office directors welcomed Consul General Hong Lei, saying that the Senators and Congress Representatives have attached great importance to U.S.-China relations and paid close attention to China’s achievements in economic and social development. The district offices are willing to strengthen communication with the Consulate General to build effective partnerships.
