On January 10, Deputy Consul General Liu Jun met with Director of Strategic Partnerships and Global Affairs Lisa Kohnke at Chicago City Council.

Deputy Council General Liu Jun thanked the City Council for their work on facilitating relations between Chicago and China and said that under the leadership of Mayor Emanuel, Chicago has achieved fruitful outcomes in cooperation with China in various fields. The 19th CPC National Congress concluded last year drew a development blue print and an action plan for China for the next 30 years. A more open China with deepened reform will bring the world including the US more development opportunities. With the background of deepening China-US relations, it is important to strengthen sub-national cooperation between the two sides. The Consulate General is looking forward to working with the City Council to elevate the bilateral relationship onto a new level in the new year.

Director Kohnke said that Mayor Emanuel has given a lot of importance to developing friendly ties with China and is working on building Chicago into the most China-friendly city in America. During the Spring Festival period, Chicago will continue to hold “Happy Chinese Spring Festival” activities across the city to celebrate this traditional Chinese festival in various ways. In 2018, the Strategic Partnerships and Global Affairs office is willing to main communication with the Consulate General and further expand pragmatic win-win cooperation with China.
