2018-07-09 23:01

On July 9, 2018, Consul General Hong Lei met with US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi representing Illinois’s 8th Congressional District.

Consul General Hong Lei said that China and the United States are the world's two largest economies and permanent members of the UN Security Council. Maintaining healthy and stable bilateral relations between the two countries is not only in the interest of the Chinese and American peoples but also in line with the expectations of the world. China's development presents opportunities rather than threats to the United States. The two countries should choose cooperation instead of confrontation, and partners rather than rivals. The two sides should enhance strategic mutual trust, promote pragmatic cooperation, properly handle differences and build stronger cooperative relations.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi said that the United States and China should become partners rather than rivals, hoping that the United States and China will properly handle economic and trade issues through dialogue and consultation. He added that the Chinese American community in Illinois serves as an important bridge between the United States and China and wished greater prosperity and diversity of the Chinese community.
