Newly Appointed Chinese Consul General Zhao Jian Arrives in Chicago

On March 5th, the newly appointed Chinese Consul General in Chicago Mr. Zhao Jian and his wife Ms. Wu Ting arrived in Chicago after a long flight with Hainan Airlines. Chairwoman Zheng Zheng and Board Chairman Wang Xingwu of the Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago (CAAGC), along with other representatives of the Chinese community and staff of the Consulate General, greeted them at O’Hare.

In an interview with the media upon arrival, Consul General Zhao noted that assuming this post as the 11th Chinese Consul General in Chicago is a mission of great honor and important responsibilities. This year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. In line with the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two nations, China and the U.S. are working toward a relationship based on coordination, cooperation, and stability. The nine states in the American Midwest, which the Consulate General in Chicago services, have all shown interest in deepening relations with China. Their exchanges and cooperation with China have yielded fruitful results in recent years, not the least of which being that China is now an important trading partner of the region. The Consulate General in Chicago stands ready to work with the governments and people of all sectors in the Midwest to further promote the friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between the two sides, thereby contributing to the healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations.

Consul General Zhao thanked the Chinese community and the Chinese students and businesses in the Midwest for the important role they have played over the years in enhancing mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between the Chinese and American people. He stressed that the Consulate General, following the principle of diplomacy for the people, stays committed to providing them with better services and better safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals.

Consul General Zhao concluded his interview by extending New Year greetings to all members of the Chinese community and the Chinese students and businesses in the Midwest, wishing them a prosperous and happy new year, and expressed the hope that they will continue to actively support and participate in the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.
