Consul General Zhao Jian Attends Chinese Community's Reception for Chicago Mayor-elect Lightfoot

On April 6th, the United Chinatown Organization (UCO), Chicago Chinatown Special Events (CCSE) and other Chicago-based Chinese community organizations and the U.S. Representative Danny Davis’ Office co-hosted a reception to introduce Chicago’s Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot to the Chinese community. Mayor-elect Lightfoot, US Rep. Davis, Cook County Treasurer Maria Papas, Chicago City Treasurer-elect Melissa Conyears-Ervin, 25th Ward Alderman-elect Byron Sigcho-Lopez, UCO co-founder Ma Linzhu, CCSE Co-Chair Liuhuang Wanxian and Honorary Advisor Li Shuangzhen, and Chairwoman Zheng Zheng of the Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago (CAAGC) were in attendance. Consul General Zhao Jian and Deputy Consul General Liu Jun attended upon invitation.

Consul General Zhao congratulated Ms. Lightfoot on her election as Mayor of Chicago and commended the Chinese community’s diligence and dedication and their contributions to local economic and social development. He noted that Chicago has played a leading role in sub-national exchanges between the U.S. Midwest and China. The Consulate General is ready to work with the Mayor and her government to promote greater progress of bilateral relations.

In her speech, Ms. Lightfoot thanked the local Chinese community for their contributions to Chicago. As the Mayor-elect, she will strongly support and work hard to ensure the continued prosperity of the local Chinese community. She also noted that exchanges and cooperation with China is part of Chicago’s future and she looks forward to working with the Chinese side to further strengthen the sound cooperative relations between the two sides.
