Trade deficit exceeds $10b in first 4 months

China's trade deficit hit 10.76 billion US dollars in the first four months with soaring exports and imports.

According to statistics from Chinese customs available on the website of the Ministry of Commerce, China's imports were 173.5 billion US dollars, up 42.4 percent year-on-year while exports were 162.7 billion US dollars, up 33.5 percent.

The total trade volume added up to 336.2 billion US dollars, up38 percent on the basis of the same period last year.

In April alone, China's trade volume increased by 37.6 percent to hit 96.5 billion US dollars, of which, imports surged by 42.9 percent to hit 49.38 billion US dollars and exports hit 47.12 billion US dollars, up 32.4 percent year-on-year.
