Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his U.S. counterpart Hillary Clinton had a telephone conversation here on Friday, with both sides pledging to ensure a successful visit by U.S. President Barack Obama to China next month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

    The two also discussed climate change and the Korean and Iranian nuclear issues, said the statement.

    Yang, who is here accompanying Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao for a series of meetings at the Thai resort, hailed the recent development of China-U.S. relations, including Chinese President Hu Jintao's meeting with President Obama in New York in September and their phone talks several days ago, according to the statement.

    "China will work along with the U.S. side to seriously implement the consensus reached between the heads of state, and enhance dialogue, exchange and cooperation," Yang was quoted as saying.

Clinton, in her turn, said Washington will strive to promote the positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship with China, which conforms with the two countries' interests.

    President Obama looks forward to his China visit, said the secretary of state, adding that she believes it will be a fruitful and successful trip.
