China and theUnited Statesshoulder equally important responsibilities in promoting the world economy and a rule-based system of global economics, a US official said Wednesday in Beijing.

US Under-Secretary of State for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs Alan Larson said China has become an economic force that is as important as the United States, Europe and Japan, which are all responsible for a healthy global economy.

China's influence on regional and international organizations will be both historic and positive, Larson told students at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.

Larson also said the United States and China have conducted increasingly successful collaboration on security issues in the past several years, which is conducive to not only the two countries, but also the whole international community.

China has played an important role in international efforts while dealing with nuclear issues on the Korean peninsula and offering assistance to Afghanistan, he said.
