Chinese state councilor meets MIT president

Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met here on Tuesday, June 22 with President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Susan Hockfield, and encouraged the university to do more with China.

Liu hailed technology and research exchanges and cooperation between MIT and Chinese universities, and also spoke highly of the university alliance on low carbon energy and joint research center for theoretical computer science, which are cooperation programs run by MIT, China's Tsinghua University and other world famous universities.

Liu also encouraged MIT to deepen educational cooperation with China, and promote personnel and youth exchanges between the two countries.

The university alliance for low carbon energy was established by MIT, China's Tsinghua University and the University of Cambridge. It is a joint research program and a platform that will provide technology support and policy recommendations on low carbon energy.

The joint research center for theoretical computer science was established by Tsinghua University, MIT and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
