The six-party talks face important opportunities of getting out of difficulties, with the concerted efforts of all parties involved, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei said Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Wu, also head of Chinese delegation for the six-party talks, made the remarks in a statement responding to questions concerning Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's just-concluded visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Wen and DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il reached important consensus to push forward the Korean Peninsula denuclearization process.

Such consensus was of great significance to resuming the six-party talks, said Wu.

It suggested the talks faced important opportunities of getting out of the difficulties, he said.

Wen paid the three-day official goodwill visit to the DPRK from Oct. 4 to 6.

During a meeting with Wen on Monday, Kim said the DPRK is willing to attend multilateral talks, including the six-party talks, depending on the progress in its talks with the United States.

Launched in 2003, the six-party talks on the Korean peninsula nuclear issue involved China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan.

The talks have been stalled since the last round in Beijing last December.

There are multiple ways of dialogue within the framework of thesix-party talks, Wu said in the statement.

China always support bilateral dialogues held by relevant parties within the framework of the six-party talks, so as to solve the concerns of all parties in a balanced way and further the talks in a comprehensive manner, he said.

Wu said he thought the DPRK-U.S. bilateral dialogue put forward by the DPRK as a move to create conditions for the talks' resumption.

In this sense, the DPRK-U.S. dialogue is also "an important step" within the framework of the six-party talks, Wu said, addingChina supports whatever is conducive to pushing forward the talks.

"I hope the DPRK-U.S. dialogue can make substantive results," he said.

Noting an overall resumption of the talks needs all parties' joint efforts, Wu called on all parties to seize opportunities, take active measures, in a bid to resume the talks at an early date,

China is confident of the prospects of the six-party talks, he said.
