On January 3rd, Consul General Wang Baodong attended the New Year Celebration for overseas Chinese in Chicago. The representatives of local Chinese associations in Chicago and relevant American dignitaries were present at the event.

In his speech, Consul General Wang highlighted that the "15th Five-Year Plan" proposal approved at the 4th plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2025 outlined a grand blueprint for China's economic and social development over the next five years. Under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, the China-U.S. relationship has weathered storms and continued to move forward. China firmly defends its sovereignty, security and development interests on tariffs and Taiwan related issues. In the new year of 2026, China will continue to comprehensively advance the building of a strong nation and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, and contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to global governance. It’s hoped that overseas Chinese will continue to support China's modernization drive, work together to promote the unity and harmonious development of the local Chinese community, strengthen the role of bridge and link between China and the United States in friendly people-to-people exchanges, and help China and the Midwestern region of the U.S. achieve more fruitful cooperation.
